Tasha Cammidge braved the rain to run the Green Labs booth!

Tasha Cammidge - Green Labs Coordinator (since August 2026):

Hi! My name is Tasha a I helped co-found the Caltech Green Labs program in 2022 along with fellow lab manager Sarah Torres and numerous other dedicated volunteers. Our main goal was to develop simple and equitable sustainable practices that do not compromise research objectives, and incorporate them into Institution policy. Based on the data our Green Labs team collected from our volunteer pilot programs, we were able to make a case for a full time role to be created. I began my role as the full time Green Labs Coordinator in August 2026! I hold two Bachelor's degrees and a Master's degree from the University of Calgary. Arabella Camunez - Water Conservation Associate (since Summer 2026):

My name is Arabella, and I am a fourth-year chemical engineering student on the sustainability track, interested in working in nuclear energy and environmental policy. I enjoy theater, singing, and getting outdoors and am excited to work with Green Labs on Sustainability projects that impact our community right here on campus.

Aarohi Patel - ReStore and Energy Survey Associate (since Summer 2025):

Hi I'm Aarohi! I'm a sophomore studying Electrical Engineering and minoring in Robotics. My interests in sustainability developed over the summer when I conducted a SURF with Green Labs. I found that learning about and trying to reduce energy consumption is really cool and slight changes in behavior can lead to a large impact! I'm so excited to keep working with Green Labs, continuing my research, and helping with the brand new Re-Store!

Jason "JT" Tran - ReStore and Energy Survey Associate (since Fall 2025):

Hi, my name is JT, and I'm a junior studying Electrical Engineering with a minor in Environmental Science and Engineering. I'm interested in the intersection of these fields, and I hope to use my experience to create sustainable technologies, reduce waste, and help build a more renewable and energy-efficient world. I'm happy to be part of Green Labs, where we work to reduce waste and make Caltech more energy-efficient.

Tuyako Khristoforova - ReStore and Energy Survey Associate (since Fall 2025):

Hi, my name is Tuyako! I'm a Caltech junior studying Materials Science. My passion lies in sustainable alternatives for energy storage. At Green Labs, I currently work as a Restore and Energy Efficiency Intern. My time at Green Labs has taught me that even the smallest changes can create big wins for the environment!

Bhakti Ahir Ahir - Fume Hood Project Associate (since Summer 2025):

Hello! My name is Bhakti and I am a sophomore at Caltech studying Biochemistry. This past summer, I had the opportunity to conduct research with the Green Labs and Kornfield Labs at Caltech, where I developed a fume hood motion and sash-height sensor aimed at reducing energy consumption in research laboratories. I am deeply passionate about leveraging innovation and scientific research to address real-world challenges, particularly those that promote human health, sustainability, and the greater good of society. Looking ahead, I plan to attend medical school.

Ansh Tiwari - Fume Hood Project Associate (since Fall 2025):

Hi! I'm Ansh and I'm a sophomore studying Physics. I work with Caltech Green Labs on reducing power use in wet labs, starting with fume hood efficiency using sensors and simple control logic to cut "sash-open" time and avoid unnecessary high face-velocity operation, which lowers HVAC energy demand. More broadly, I like building practical tech that helps labs adopt more sustainable day-to-day habits.

Rohan Bhattarai - Fume Hood Project Associate (since Fall 2025)

Hi, I'm Rohan, a junior studying Physics at Caltech. I work with Caltech Green Labs on reducing energy consumption in wet lab environments. My current project focuses on improving fume hood efficiency through sensor-based monitoring and control logic that minimizes unnecessary "sash-open" time and prevents excessive face-velocity operation, which significantly reduces HVAC energy demand. I'm passionate about sensors, robotics, and IoT applications—especially when they solve real-world sustainability challenges.

Hanna Dy - ReStore and Energy Survey Associate (Summer 2026):

Hanna worked on conducing our first-ever inventory of the ReStore (she found over $8,000 worth of missing items!) and she put together and added code for over 70 fume hood MASH sensors.

Emily Lencioni - Energy Associate (Summer 2026):

Emily worked on updating various energy benchmarking tools including Energy Star Portfolio Manager, to better understand how much energy and water buildings at Caltech use. Her work will be invaluable to Caltech as we identify missing or broken meters, and develop energy and water efficiency goals unique for each building.

In December 2025 Interns Ansh, Bhakti, and Rohan developed a slide deck to support our Green Labs team during our monthly meeting, where we built almost 40 sensors with their help! Having the team help build sensors was an immense help as we move toward our year-long goal of installing 60 new MASH sensors across campus to recoup energy savings from our Shut the Sash Campaign (an average of $1,200 per fume hood!).
